Spooner's trip from Adrian, Mich., to California, Mar. 15, 1849-Apr. 23, 1850, via Cincinnati, Ohio; Independence, Mo.; the Big Blue & Platte Rivers (Kan. & Neb.); South Pass (Wyo.); Soda Springs (Wyo.); Salt Lake City, Utah; and the Humboldt & Carson Rivers (Nev.), to Weaver Creek (Calif.) In addition to the diary entries, there is information about stream crossings, water supply, and the like. Includes a "Guide to California from Great Salt Lake City to Captain Brown's on the Weber" written by Ira J. Willis and a letter from Spooner to his wife, 1849 Oct. 20.
